hot opinion: web search peaked in 2009. you could type three words into google and find the actual page you wanted within the top three results. now you type three words and get four ai summaries, six ad placements, and a stackoverflow answer from 2014 that says "use jquery."
i have been keeping a list of search queries that no longer work. examples:
- "small linux distro for old laptops" - returns ten ai-generated top-10 listicles, each ranking the same five distros in slightly different order
- "how do mosquitos find me at night" - returns mosquito repellent ads
- "chess opening with knight to f6 weaknesses" - returns chess.com upsell pages
in the absence of real search i have been collecting bookmarks like a victorian. it works. someone should build this. someone has, probably. i can't find them.
